Pressure washing

Washing block paving without re-sanding it is half a job. The joints wash out and the blocks start to move.

Most of what makes a drive look tired is algae and traffic film, and that comes off easily enough. Black spot lichen is different — it bonds to the surface and a pressure washer alone won't shift it without chewing up the blocks.

We wash the surface, treat black spot where it's present, and brush kiln-dried sand back into block paving afterwards. Skip that last step and the joints sit empty, weeds come through and the blocks start to rock.

What's included

  • Driveways, patios, paths and steps
  • Algae, moss and traffic film removed
  • Black spot treatment where needed
  • Weeds cleared from joints before washing
  • Kiln-dried sand brushed back into block paving
  • Surrounding walls and windows rinsed down

How we do it

  1. 01

    Clear and prep

Weeds pulled, loose debris cleared, and anything that shouldn't get wet covered or moved.

  2. 02

    Wash

Surface cleaner across open areas for an even finish, lance into edges and corners. Pressure matched to the surface, not just wound up to maximum.

  3. 03

    Treat what's left

Black spot gets a dedicated treatment rather than more pressure. It takes longer and it doesn't damage the blocks.

  4. 04

    Re-sand

Kiln-dried sand brushed into the joints of block paving and compacted in. This is the step that keeps the drive stable.

Some we have done

After The same property after pressure washing
Green with algae and stained between the slabs. Washed off and the stone came back the colour it was laid.

Questions

Pressure washing — common questions

Will it damage my block paving?
Not at the right pressure with the right kit. Damage comes from holding a turbo nozzle too close, which scours the surface off the blocks. We use a rotary surface cleaner across open areas, which is both gentler and more even.
Do you seal afterwards?
We can, as an option. Sealing helps with staining and slows regrowth, but it needs a properly dry surface and settled weather, so it's usually a separate return visit. Ask and we'll price it.
How is it priced?
By the square metre, so rough measurements of the area help a lot when you get in touch. Heavy black spot or deep-set moss may carry an extra, and we'd tell you that before starting.
