Downpipe unblocking

Downpipes block at the bends. Debris washes down from the gutter, catches at a swan neck or a shoe, and builds until the stack backs up and water pushes out of the joints all the way down the wall.

We rod the stack from the top, clear the hopper if there is one, and flush the lot through with water to prove it's running. If it still won't clear, the blockage is below ground and that's a drainage job — we'll say so rather than charging you to keep poking at it.

How we do it

1. 01

   Confirm where it's blocked

   Water down from the top tells us how far it gets. That narrows the blockage down before anything is dismantled.

2. 02

   Clear it

   Rodded through, or the section dropped and cleared by hand where the pipe allows it.

3. 03

   Flush and test

   Run water through until it drains freely at the bottom. A pipe that trickles is not a pipe that's cleared.

4. 04

   Tell you what we found

   If it's a below-ground gully or a collapsed drain, you get told plainly. That's a drainage contractor, not us.
